Question 1

What is Community Engagement?

Accepted Answer

Community Engagement is support that helps individuals with developmental disabilities take part in activities and experiences in their local community — building skills, relationships, and independence along the way.

Question 2

Where do services take place?

Accepted Answer

Services take place out in the community: parks, libraries, museums, fitness centers, shops, restaurants, community events, volunteer sites, and other everyday public settings.

Question 3

Are services center-based?

Accepted Answer

No. Gloria Care Haven provides non-center-based services. Individuals are supported while participating in the community rather than attending a facility-based program.

Question 4

How are activities selected?

Accepted Answer

Activities are chosen with the individual, based on their interests, preferences, strengths, goals, and person-centered plan. There is no fixed group schedule that everyone follows.

Accepted Answer

Highly individualized. Support is shaped around each person's goals and reviewed as those goals change over time.
